Classic Games That Have Made a Comeback

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to playing games. We have a vast array of online video games to play in addition to board games, with the latter enjoying a renaissance in recent times. There are many new gaming titles to enjoy but we have also witnessed the return of classic games. Continue below as we take a closer look at some of the classic games that have made a comeback.

Classic Casino Games
The introduction of online gambling means classic casino games, such as roulette and blackjack, are being played by people of all ages. Gone are the days of having to visit a casino to play a game of blackjack or poker against other players. Technology has developed to allow you to play casino table games with a real dealer at home. Live casino games are available online in Ireland, the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and many other countries around the world. In addition to the classic forms of Roulette, Blackjack, and Baccarat, you can enjoy modern variations of the games. This has helped classic casino table games to make a comeback and entice younger players to try them.

Board Games
Now we come to board games and we currently live in an age when new board games are being consistently released. However, there are many people who are discovering classic titles for the first time, some of which are being given a modern twist. Monopoly is a notable example and this board game was first released in 1935 by the Parker Brothers. The game is based on property and economics and the original version of the board game is still available to buy today. The manufacturer of Monopoly, Hasbro, have also released themed Monopoly sets, including different countries, cities, movies, television shows, and sports. This has helped Monopoly to make a comeback and remain one of the most popular board games in the world.

Scrabble is another retro board game that is proving to be popular with current gamers. A word based game, the aim of Scrabble is to make words with tiles and combining the highest ranked letters to make the biggest scores. With the dictionary constantly adding new words, Scrabble is a great family game because generations of the same family know different words. Scrabble has also been customized by people, allowing the game to be played in numerous ways, and this has helped the classic game make a comeback.

The strategy board game of Risk was first released in 1957 and continues to have millions of players around the world. The game features a political map of the world and the aim is to occupy every territory on the board. Such is the popularity of Risk, it has inspired the creation of other leading board games, including Settlers of Catan and Axis & Allies. Risk continues to be made by Hasbro and they have released numerous editions with variations, such as Risk Europe, Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones. By creating modern versions of the game, Risk is a classic game from the 1950s that has made a comeback.

Video Games
Many people think of video games as being a modern creation but the first computer games were developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The first home video game console was the Magnavox Odyssey and this was released in 1972. However, it was not until the mid-1980s with the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System that home video gaming really took off across the planet. Into the 1990s and Sega entered the fray, followed by Sony and Microsoft. Today, we have access to video games thanks to the internet and there is no need to buy a physical copy of the game. However, we have recently witnessed a revival in classic video games.

Nintendo, Sega, and Sony have released modern reproductions of their classic consoles and they have proved to be extremely popular. People who are now in their 40s will have played the classic video games from the 1990s and nostalgia is a powerful thing. Seeing the old consoles available to buy again sparks something in the brain, a yearning to be taken back to childhood, and the retro consoles have been purchased in abundance. Original games including Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, Zelda, and Street Fighter can all be played using these consoles. There are also many emulators on the market and these are small devices that include thousands of classic games. Manufacturers would not be creating the product if there was no demand.

There are many classic games that have made a comeback, spanning casino games, board games, and video games. Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat, Monopoly, Scrabble, Risk, Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Zelda are all examples of retro games that are enjoying a resurgence.
