This issue of the magazine is all about video game rental stores. Like most gamers from this era, I have plenty of memories of renting games and enjoying them with friends and family. I am going to share one of my earliest gaming memories that involves a rental store. The trend of movie rental stores having games for rent was a slow process where I grew up. The prominent stores didn’t buy into the game rentals until late 1987, but a lot of our convenience stores had small sections for movie rentals to try and expand their revenue. You could go in for chips and a soda, and also rent a movie for the night, saving an entire trip to the movie store. The selection was smaller but it was nice to have options. These types of stores adopted the game rentals very quickly. I would guess it was an attempt to stand out from the larger stores by offering rentals
